Seasonal Watershed Inspectors

This year, The Owasco Lake Watershed Inspection Program had the priviledge of hiring two seasonal watershed inspectors. The seasonal inspectors will be working for the program until late May. Since their hiring in early March, Jen Loveless and Marty McGuane have been working in the field continuously; sometimes covering several miles a day!

On March 23rd, they wrapped up a project that included conducting in-depth stream segment surveys of both Dutch Hollow Brook and the Owasco Inlet of Locke and Moravia. Dutch Hollow Brook and the Owasco Inlet account for about 70% of the water entering the lake. Using sampling data collected from years past, certain segments of both tributaries were identified showing elevated nutrient levels. Seasonal Inspectors then walked each segment and any contributing smaller streams to identify potential water quality concerns and point sources of pollution.
